Situated on Delhi - Jaipur Highway, Amber fort stands atop a range of craggy hills
to the north of Jaipur. It ranks second in the hierarchy of forts only after the
fort of Gwalior.
The original palace was built by Raja Man Singh, while successive rulers contributed
to the development of the place in their way.

Architecture - Fine Blend of Rajput and Mughal Style
The architecture of the fort is a fine blend of Rajput and Mughal styles. The picturesque
location of the fort and its reflection in the blue waters of Maota Lake is truly
spellbinding. The fort is also noted for its sturdy battlements and beautiful palaces.
The entrance to the fort is very steep and can be taken on a elephant back. This
leads to the Grand Singh Pol (Lion Gate) gateway and the Jalebi Chock. Within the
Jalebi Chock, ther are two flight of steps. One leading to the Shila Mata Temple
and another to the Main palace complex.
Wonderful Carvings and Mirror Work
The beautiful Amber Palace complex is approached through an imposing gateway called
"Ganesh Pol". It comprises of magnificent halls, pavilions gardens and a temple
built by Raja Man Singh over a span of about two centuries.
The main sites here includes Diwan-e-aam or the Hall for the Public Audiences,
Sukh Niwas or the Hall of Pleasure, Jai Mandir or the Hall of Mirrors, Diwan-
i-khas or the Private Meeting Hall and Jas Mandir.
